I had great results on my re-dyeing session. I used less orange in the red and yellow orange and less black in the yellow green.

So here is my new run of colors. Wonderful addition to the gloomy, rainy days of winter here in Portland. It was pretty nice today, however.

I have been doing a lot of knitting as I limit my activity to keep from having too much knee pain. I have added my favorite chartreuse color to this Fuzzy Wuzzy cowl that I am knitting.

Dyeing – Week 2

This week, we are doing gradations of the primaries – sun yellow, fuchsia and turquoise. I did a full 8 gradation of yellow because I use it quite a bit. I only did 3 gradations of the fuchsia and turquoise.

I used plastic baggies for these.

I also did a blue gradation using Elizabeth’s divisive method: which involves beginning with all the concentrate at once, and then gradually reducing the amount of dye concentrate you pour over the fabric. These are still needing soda ash.

Tomorrow, I will do the high water version to get a solid color – you can add salt to the water to help the process.

I broke down and bought a small fridge on Amazon. It arrived packed in 3 boxes and some stryrofoam. It was a comedy of errors watching us unpack it. I need to keep my dye concentrates cold and since I turn up the heat in the studio to batch my dyes, it was a necessity!

I also finished the brown sweater set for my hair stylist’s baby boy, who is a red head.

I’m Back

I have been very busy with my SDA duties. When I send out renewal letters, I get a lot of renewals to update in the database and this time of year it is about double. So, I have been chained to the computer and not doing much creatively.

Look, at my Paige, riding her new bike. She is growing up so fast!! Looks like it is quite nice in San Mateo. In Portland, we had snow and ice and cold weather and schools closed for two days.

This photo was taken out our condo window.

I have managed to finish the brown kid sweater and get started on the little hat.

I want to get a cowl done for myself with this lovely yarn.

When I was in California, knitting, Paige wondered what I was making. She mused that she would like a purple sweater with Winnie the Pooh on it. I found this book on an Etsy site so I just need to buy the yarn.

poohsweaterbookI am hoping to crank up the sewing machine tomorrow and do some facings on a couple of small quilts and add an oak tree to the Sonoma landscape. I am getting a slow start for the new year, sort of coasting and dealing with the knee issue. Trying to do the daily exercises that have been prescribed – they are really kind of annoying and I don’t enjoy doing them!

Day 11

I managed to get to my studio today after a bit of angst over not finding a parking spot. I get so irritated over the parking situation. The lot is for renters only and we have stickers to show we are valid. There are always cars there with no sticker. So, this morning I left and did some grocery shopping and came home in a snit. Mr C drove me back so I could work for a while then came back and picked me up.

This is a piece that I am doing to show the use of lost edges. It is taking me forever to cut little leaves for this row of trees. I think I am ready to start quilting. I want to quilt the leaves and the background before I add the trunks.

I am also making progress on this little sweater.

It has been so dark and dreary and rainy today. I am having a SADD episode due to lack of light. I think we are due for some sun over the next few days and I am looking forward to it.

This is the extent of my Christmas decor this year -our fake birch tree on the deck with lights. I just have not felt like going to the storage room to retrieve things and put them out. I hardly slept last night because of pain in my knees and I have not been very active today.

I binge watched Broadchurch on Netflix (2nd season). Mr C says he does not remember it so I am watching it by myself. I also got quite a bit done on this sweater. I have the sleeves on stitch holders while I knit the body of the sweater in the round.

Tonight was our condo holiday party. It was lots of fun to share food and drink with all of our neighbors. We hardly see people most of the time as we come and go. Here is Mr C with our good friend, Bonnie. She belongs to Trinity and we had dinner at her condo a few years ago and she is the reason we live here, because we loved her place. She is a fiesty 80+ year old woman.

I actually feel pretty good tonight – must be the result of imbibing some good wine.
