Tile Update

Wednesday, April 9th, 2008

I thought I would share the results of our tile design work. We met with a designer at the tile store. She showed us these extra large subway style tiles that are really reasonably priced. I think we will do those vertically with a band of the mosaic running around the perimeter of the bathroom, where there is tile. There will be a half wall in the shower and we may do that entirely in the mosaic. Steve wanted to warm up the room by  having the floor use warmer colors. She suggested this porcelain tile that looks like fabric. The color picks up the caramel color in the mosaic.

But, when I was looking at my photos, I was really taken with the black version:

The nice thing about those tiles is that they have a bit of a texture so not as slippery, and they come in a variety of  shapes and sizes – rectangular and square. I would really like to do small ceramic tiles in a caramel/black combination. So, we will keep looking.

Gratuitous Grandchild Photos

This afternoon, I was finally going to get down to the studio to do some work. Then, these wonderful beings showed up.

They get out of school early on Wednesday so their mom brought them over for a visit and to take possession of her birthday present, a new lens for her camera.

After a snack of apple champagne, molasses cookies and almonds, we enjoyed some time in the front yard. It was not the greatest weather, but nice enough to do some chalk drawings and hang out with Grandma.

Mia drew this kitten:

Miles drew this International Don’t sign for girls!! Argh – he is that age.

Maggie loves when they come over, but she is getting so old, she can hardly keep up with them. She is wondering which direction they went! Notice the lovely Portland film of moss.

I had a good weigh-in day at WW. I was down 1.2 pounds and I feel that I am in control of this again. Whew!!
