An iPhoto Hiatus

Wednesday, September 19th, 2012

Yesterday, I was getting ready to download photos and post a blog and my iPhoto app crashed. I couldn’t fix it — tried some disc first aid and gave up and made an appointment for phone support with Apple. I spent over an hour with a very nice tech, but it was taking so long to rebuild my library that he had to let me go and told me to call back when that was done. Instead, I made an appointment with a Macologist at the store where I bought the Macbook. I spent from 2:30 until 5 pm there.

The problem was too many photo libraries and it finally crashed. Every time I got a new computer last year and downloaded my backup from the internet, it created a new library. Today, we integrated all of them and it seems to be working very well and I have found a lot of missing photos.

Yesterday, Mr C and I delivered the Twelve by Twelve quilts to the quilt expo. I supervised how they would be hung and then left them in the capable hands of some terrific kids to do the hanging.

I got some time in the studio to finish fusing the kelp quilt.

I found this great fabric for the back in my stash.

I made a trip to Fabric Depot this morning to get some thread and tonight I started quilting.

Here is today’s 3 x 3.

I have to get up at 4 am in the morning to meet Terry at the Quilt Expo as we are doing a little promo about the Twelve exhibit for the local NBC affiliate. We are going to have the TV personality fuse a 12 x 12 quilt. Our segment is to air at 6:45 so if you are in the area, get up and watch!!

Now, I have to get myself organized for getting up that early!!

Prepping for the Twelve Exhibit

Monday, September 17th, 2012

I have spent 2 or 3 days working on the artist statements for the Twelve by Twelve exhibit. I printed them on tabloid sized card stock on my large Epson printer. The problem was that they were in a horizontal format because the IQF shows placed them on music stands. Not having this available, I needed to punt. I carefully cut them in half and lined them up and trimmed them to the same size. I wanted to have them hang between the quilts and to save space, I used paper fasteners and attached two sets of artist statements together to hang between the two mosaics. I will post a photo after we get the show hung, if this works!! Here are the artist statements, all assembled.

By the way, in case you were wondering why I didn’t reformat them on the computer – they were pdfs so we were stuck with the format.

I did manage to get fabric and supplies from the workshop put away. And  I made a couple of 3 x 3s. Tomorrow, Mr C and I are delivering the quilts and signage to the expo center and will assist with the hanging.

Back From My Blog Break

Saturday, September 15th, 2012

I have been busy and no time to blog. The lecture and workshop with Elizabeth Barton was fantastic. I recovered from my virus in time to enjoy the 3 days of creativity.

There are not photos to show from the workshop because it was mainly cerebral. I had a great breakthrough for a theme/series I have been thinking about. Elizabeth had us choose a theme, describe it in terms of form vs. content and then write a paragraph about the meaning to you. I came up with several ideas for a series that I have been wanting to do, but felt stymied. More on that in the future.

Today, I have been catching up at home – laundry, shopping, cleaning up the place. We even went to Costco and stocked up on stuff. This afternoon, I worked in the studio and office. I got caught up on 3 x 3s and started printing the signage for the Twelve by Twelve show which gets hung this next week for NW Quilt Expo – Sept 20 -22.

So here are the other 3 x 3s for the week.

Have a great week-end.

Wordless Wednesday

Ha!

Tuesday, September 11th, 2012

I did it. I muddles through the day. I did some SDA work. I took Scooter for a walk in the Rhodie Garden and I picked up my CSA veggies.

I also got the quilt show paperwork done and got labels, hangers and bags done for the Rhythm and Hues show. I need to turn everything in tomorrow.

It is the quarterly meeting of Columbia Fiberart Guild tomorrow and our guest speaker is the eloquent Elizabeth Barton. It has been my quest for some time to get her on our program. She is teaching a two day workshop on Thursday and Friday — Working in a Series.

I still don’t have my stuff ready for the workshop – that will have to happen tomorrow afternoon.
