handdyestorage

My website and blog have still been under a cyber attack. So, it comes and goes. These guys should get a life!! I have been working away, mostly, getting my studio looking good again. I had never hung any art after Mr C painted it last year. What a difference it makes to have some of my art hanging on the walls. Above is the little storage system I bought at Target where I store my hand dyes by color. I hung my then and now self portrait above it. The top has random sketch books and blank paper, I think.

This is my sewing area with some wire storage of quilt backing fabric, wool roving, commercial silk and organza fabric and pfd fabric. My Scorched Earth piece hangs on the left and a couple of small 12 X 12s on the right.

My ironing table is just to the left of the drying rack. The table has my collection of large and small irons. Fiesta, the orange 12 x 12, just came home from the SDA member’s show. The other cloth is a Japanese batik piece that I bought for a $1 at a garage sale. It has 3 pockets at the bottom. Not sure what its intended use was.

This is my main design and photography wall. After 7 years, the felt is showing its age so I think I will replace it. The table with white felt is my print table and the ironing table is next to it. On the wall is the latest Cruciform piece and a poster with my photo which was used in Susan Lenz’s Decision series.

The storage unit on the left is for my Japanese vintage textiles. I really don’t use them that much any more so am thinking of bagging them up and finding a new home for them. On the wall is a framed piece of my felted “Frippary” pieces and an old piece with fabric printed by me with some commercial fabric. I called it Pathways. I don’t think I ever entered it in a show. It was fun to find it and hang it in my studio.

I have lots more purging and organizing to do. I have really refined what I do in the studio and it is time to get rid of stuff I no longer use. (Someday!) For now, I am happy with how it looks.

I have to finish up here before the website goes down again. I am off to a STASH meeting with my Portland friends.

blousefabric

I have been missing from this place, but busy and having fun. I intended to post last night, but the server for this site was hacked and was down for a bit. So here is what I have been up to.

I went out to buy some muslin to dye for quilt backs and to make some travel bags for my quilts. I saw the cotton/linen fabrics above and decided to buy them to make a top that I had seen made up in a shop in downtown Portland. It is a Very Easy Vogue pattern. I am making the short sleeve version.

That was Wednesday.

On Thursday, I spent an hour or so working on some purging and reorganizing my studio. I have been inspired by Lynn Krawczyk – Fibra Artysta, who has worked with a professional organizer and in two days purged and reorganized. She is now sharing what she learned from this.

I have this print drying unit that had so much stuff on it, I could not use it for the intended purpose. It is now ready for use or better yet, to go to another home if we decide to downsize our living situation.

Then, it was off to the neighborhood 4th of July parade.

Even chickens got in on the event.

That evening, we were invited to enjoy the fireworks with friends in downtown Portland. His condo is next to the Portland Art Museum and has great views of the down town.

After enjoying fondue, we trekked down to the waterfront to the Hawthorne Bridge and waited for the fireworks. We did some sparkler play while we waited.

On Friday and Saturday,  I continued working in my studio. I found things strewn here and there and tried to consolidate what I was keeping in containers. I have a big plastic box that has much of my printing tools.

Here are my electrical tools.

And my respirators and dust masks.

I have recycled lots of paper stuff and here are a couple of bags of trash – there will be more.

I really need to think twice before I save stuff for potential use.

So that was my time away from the blog. We also enjoyed a family barbecue with the Portland family on Saturday night.

3x3halfdone

I am half way stitching these babies together – only took me six months.

This was probably our last really hot day, and I thought that I would get some dyeing done. However, my job with Surface Design Association took precedence. It is the beginning of the month so lots of state reps like to send their newsletters.

I did make it down tonight after dinner and started working on the sleeves for the Simply Red pieces. We have been asked to make the sleeve in two parts and leave a 3 – 4 inch section in the middle that is open. I will show you why in  a later post.

I got the sleeves stitched to Moonstruck.

Here is a photo of Scooter with my exercise ball. He loves to chase it when I roll it down the hallway.

And last, but not least, I love this beautiful Ginkgo tree that I see in the Rhodie Garden.

Tomorrow, my car is going in for major plastic surgery. It is taking 10 days so I will have a rental car. I have to get up early the car admitted and pick up my temporary wheels.

kitchengarden

How does your garden grow?

This is my kitchen garden. Before this photo, it was a jungle of overgrown and bitter leaf lettuce. I pulled it out, weeded and planted new leaf lettuce.

These lettuces got to stay:

My tomatoes are a jungle of activity. I should have cut back some suckers earlier, but was too busy.

I have lots of green cherry tomatoes – with our hot weather, they should be red, soon.

We are starting to harvest yellow and zucchini squash.

I had to be out of the house most of the morning because Mr C was spraying some dry wall texture in the basement bathroom. The new plumbing comes through there and so a quite large chunk of the wall had to be replaced. The stuff he sprays on it has a vile odor that lasts a long time.

Hopefully, I can get back down to the studio tomorrow.
