Tile Update

I thought I would share the results of our tile design work. We met with a designer at the tile store. She showed us these extra large subway style tiles that are really reasonably priced. I think we will do those vertically with a band of the mosaic running around the perimeter of the bathroom, where there is tile. There will be a half wall in the shower and we may do that entirely in the mosaic. Steve wanted to warm up the room by  having the floor use warmer colors. She suggested this porcelain tile that looks like fabric. The color picks up the caramel color in the mosaic.

But, when I was looking at my photos, I was really taken with the black version:

The nice thing about those tiles is that they have a bit of a texture so not as slippery, and they come in a variety of  shapes and sizes – rectangular and square. I would really like to do small ceramic tiles in a caramel/black combination. So, we will keep looking.

I like the black a lot, but practicality speaks to me here in that I think it would show soap/water lines after a day or two, so I’d have to go with the linen………but I really like the contrast with the black.

I LOVE glass subway tiles and would have used them in our kitchen reno as the backsplash, but fell too madly in love with our granite.

Your colors are warm and soothing: I feel like I’m inside of a yummy hot fudge sundae! MMMMMMM

Ooh, I love that fabric-like tile. Wonderful, graphic, simple, yet really interesting. And I agree– the black looks great but I’m not sure I would have picked it initially. The whole look together is very striking. (Will the black tile go anywhere where water mineralizing will leave weird white marks and be annoying to clean all the time?)

OOOOoooo Gerrie, I’m with you. I like the black tile as well. Very sharp looking.
Gorgeous kid pictures yesterday! They grow and change so fast.
