Two more postcards

Here are two postcards made today. The top one is made with a photo of a bouquet that my friend Patty designed for a brunch I had earlier this month. The photo was printed on bubblejet set silk and collaged with silk fabrics.

The second is a sunflower for my friend, Janet Shore, who turned 81 today. She is a most amazing person. One of the founders of the East Bay Heritage Quilt Guild and master quilter. She had a quilt in Quilt National way back in the dark ages!! She has so much energy that we 60 somethings can barely keep up with her. She had hip replacement surgery last year and bounced right back. She is on the road almost every day in her blue Volvo going to some quilting group around the bay area. Her motto is “Always drive five miles over the speed limit.” She loves sunflowers and so I thought this card would be appropriate for someone who has brought so much sunshine into my life!!

  1. Fascinating blog. I loved the site you did a good
job on it, I will be back! I surf the net for blog

Love the images especially the sunflower. I also like the idea of printing onto the silk with an inkjet. You’ve encouraged me to have a go at that. Thanks.

They have to be hand cancelled and taken to the counter…I just haven’t tried dropping them in a box…I always do have to have an “ordeal” with whatever clerk I get though…they will cost anywhere from 37 cents – 49 cents to mail just depending on the clerk…I have learned to take the ones I’ve received (over 30) with me to show proof of the cost of postage.

Lovely postcards! Do you really mail them like postcards? I ask because I’m getting mine ready for a swap I entered that’s due April 30. I’m excited because I’ve finally come up a with a way to work this small for me, and it’s made me all excited about making some more for mother’s day. But I’m worried about mailing them like real postcards because I think they might get all dirty going through the mails — I’m really tempted to slip them into envelopes. I guess then they would just be mini-quilts and that wouldn’t be so bad either? Oh, and I like your idea of writing out the message with your free motion stitching!

You’ve inspired me! My sister’s birthday is next week and Mother’s Day is coming up. I’m making post cards baby. I’ll post them after they’ve been received.

And now I must tell you that I found the catalog for Quilt National 93 on the super sale table at the book store last week so I bought it. And here it is right next to my computer and when I read about Janet Shore, I looked her up and there was her marvelous “Cockeyed Optimist” quilt. So, Happy Birthday to Janet! And Happy Healing to you!

I still can’t believe that you send these pretty things through the mail.

Love the cards. I want to be speeding when I’m 81, too.
