An Overdue Political Rant

I am taking time from my newsletter editing to post a political rant (Hope you are happy, Patricia!) First of all, regarding the indictment of Scooter, I copied this from Rosie O’ Donnell’s blog. She does the BEST political rants.

the VICE PRESIDENTS
chief of staff
5 criminal charges

i watch the republicans dodge
this historic moment in our nations history

?¢‚Ǩ?ìwe must stay focused?¢‚Ǩ¬¶we have a job to do
blah blah blah?¢‚Ǩ¬ù

– over 2000 dead in Iraq
– over 45 million without health care
– 1 in 5 american children live in POVERTY
– 50% of black and hispanic kids
   DO NOT graduate high school

THIS IS AMERICA TODAY

dick c knew what scooter was doing
lying
like they all did
to get us into this INSANE war –
for the benefit of those who already have too much

karl rove is a criminal creep
his day will come
and our brainless unelected president
once again on vacation

what the hell has happened to US

That last sentence rings very true with me. I feel as if we are moving backwards. The Christian Right is making me lose my religion!!

The Supreme Court nominee is very scary. All you youngun’s out there – be very afraid. I grew up in the era of coat hangers and back room, botched abortions. I had an aunt who almost died from an attempt to abort a pregnancy with a coat hanger. I don’t necessarily condone abortions, but a woman has a right to decide what goes on in her body not some creepy old men on the Supreme Court. We will surely go back to a time of women doing harm to themselves if Roe v Wade is overturned. Because women will continue to try to control their own bodies whatever means they need to take. The wealthy will go to another country or some clinic where it is done safely, but the others will be at great risk and at the mercy of unethical backroom abortionists.

Another thing. These people who want to force a woman to have a baby do not want to fund social services that will help that woman raise a child with proper health care and education.

OK, I said it and I feel better!

Just catching up on your blog Gerrie, and glad to read this rant. I agree with every part, and it makes me so mad – I can’t believe we had such a corrupt adminstration who protests to be so pious. And this morning I just read an article about Cheney leading the charge to allow the US more leaway to torture prisoners. Makes me sick.

  2. cindy williams says:

You go girl! I agree completely. I have a cousin who thinks that Roe VS Wade being overturned is what will wake up the liberals. I hope it does not take that.

Bush is constantly changing the subject and the american public falls for it everytime. How can that be?

  3. Cheryl says:

I have just read all these comments and am so very proud to be connected in a small cyber way with each and every one of these wise women. Thank you! It is up to us to influence as best we can the youth that come after us (kudos to that last paragraph, Gerrie)as well as be a part of positive & peaceful change now.

  4. Del says:

Thanks, Gerri. It is great to know someone who has opinions and is willing to share them. Sometimes I think I am all alone in my political ideas. Del

  5. Elle says:

It is OK to be religious, but it is not OK to force your beliefs on others, and that’s what I feel the Religious Right is doing. As women, we should be truly concerned about matters concerning our bodies. I’m not for abortion, but I do believe that we should have the right to choose. Rant on!

  6. Sonji Hunt says:

I absolutely agree with you. The thing is that everything is cyclical and it seems like the past is creeping up to bite everyone in the ass. America’s hypocrisy will be (is already) the road to it’s demise. Well, unless we all do something about it.

  7. melissa says:

I have to say that I am not happy with the fact that there never seems to be a “happy” medium. Though I am basically republican (gasp! LOL), I am becoming more and more repulsed by politics in general from the right. I just don’t know where to lay any sort of loyalty anymore. I don’t like the extreme right or left, and it’s all we ever seem to see.

I am also a person who doesn’t agree with abortion, BUT, I believe strongly that a woman should never have that decision taken away from her–especially by men. I am a huge advocate for adoption–especially as an adoptive mom who is going through the process again.

Overall? I am really sad regarding the state of the today’s world.

  8. Deborah says:

That last paragraph is so important. We spend so much time arguing about the rights and wrongs of abortion (or any issue) and never spend energy and money on how to improve the realities of what’s going on with real people. Where is the real education about sex? Where are the options about adoption? Where is public preschool? Where are the jobs that really let employees put family first?

  9. DebR says:

YES!! I love it when you do political rants, Gerrie. You do them so well. You are so sane and so very, very correct!

  10. patricia says:

    hehe…thx so much…yes i read my political blogs every day…here’s a favorite…http://somayitsecretlybegin.blogspot.com/
i’m overdue for a rant myself…went to another peace vigil last week but things are pretty sickening…stay well and continue to rant while we still can…

  11. lisa says:

YOU GO MOM!!! i love you.

  12. Jen Anderson says:

Well said Gerrie. I might not agree with “partial birth” abortion, but I certainly don’t want to see choices taken away from women. It REALLY frightens me to think that they might overturn Roe v Wade. Don’t even get me started on the inequities between men and women…

As far as any compassion goes, where is it? It is always the poor who suffer…and poor women the most. Jen

  13. gabrielle says:

You make me feel that there is sanity somewhere in the world. When you get a chance, check out my slef-portrait Tuesday. Hope it doesn’t offend anyone…but then maybe I don’t. Rant on, sister.

  14. Karoda says:

I have really been struggling with the reason for the continued support by the loyal few and why momentum against the blatantly crooked administration has grown so slowly…what I’m rolling around is the idea that corporations have neared success of commodification of humanity… Brand loyalty…success by association (????).

  15. mary manahan says:

Bush is retarded. Cheney and Rove are evil. I certainly hope the democrats have some plans…hopefully, they will fight this nominee. Harriet was just a decoy.

I feel the same as you, Gerrie.

  16. Kathie says:

Rant on! This new Supreme Court nominee voted to uphold a law requiring husbands to be notified of a wife’s intention to have an abortion. Be very afraid.
