RIP Miss Maggie

I took this photo of Maggie just before we drove her to the vet’s office. They were so kind and ushered us into a room and took care of all the details so that we could leave without a to do when it was over. I awoke at 5 this morning and knew that I had to be there when she went to sleep. If I could make this decision, then I needed to be there. Mr C and I held her as she went limp in our hands. I felt such a sense of relief as Maggie’s spirit was liberated from  her deteriorating body.

It has been a quiet and solemn day. Even Scooter is subdued today. At the end, Maggie had developed strange behaviors like constant pacing, licking the floor and licking her body. I didn’t realize how quiet and calm it would be when I didn’t have the constant worry about her. It was a good thing that we did today.

On a  happier note, I picked up Laura Cater-Woods yesterday and we had a wonderful evening with her. I made this tomato tart with tomatoes and basil from my garden. We ate every last crumb. It was so good. She was off teaching the first set of workshops today.

Today, I have done a little more work on the green flash piece. Here is a sneak peek. I am liking the way these fabrics are working together.

You’re the best Mom and a great friend….to Maggie and to so many others! You gave Maggie so many gifts, and yes: you did the right thing. I thought about you all day.
Will you please share that tomato tart recipe when you come up for air? It looks yummy!

    Dear Gerrie,
What a lucky little dog to be so loved.
As a child my mum always told us that when a pet died they were a star in the sky. May your little Maggie ‘shine on’.
    Thanks for your wonderful blog.
    All the best, Nia

    So sorry to hear about Maggie. Having been in the situation twice myself I know how hard it is. {{hugs}}

‘bye, Miss Maggie. Maybe you’ll run into Abbie and Tigray on the other side of the rainbow bridge.

Gerrie, the green flash is kind of a significant phenom for me. We used to see it frequently at Sea Ranch and on Kaua’i. I even did a little research project on it, to satisfy my own curiosity. Lots of people think it’s an afterimage from staring at the orange ball of the sun, but that’s not it; it’s a true atmospheric phenomenon, and thrilling when you actually manage to see one.

Good bye Maggie, you are missed. Hugs to you and yours.

It’s so sad to say goodbye to a loved one like Maggie, but so good for you and Mr C to put her comfort and quality of life first. I imagine life in the Congdon household will be a bit subdued for a while. I wish you all the best in making the transition.

On teh other hand, your Green Flash fabric are looking fantabuluos together and I look forward to seeing more!

  7. I am so sorry about Maggie. It is so hard, I know we, too, had to let go of our little Slinky and held her the whole time. It was hard but she so deserved us being with her at the end, she gave us her ALL, her entire life and we were grateful to have loved her for 18 years!

  8. Darla says:

So sorry about Maggie. We just had to put our 18-yr-old dachshund, Micah, to sleep in May. I know what you’re going through. Big hugs from me!

I know you will miss Maggie so very much and I will miss reading about her. If only we could grant our human loved ones such a peaceful and painless exit from this world. A big old bear hug to you and Mr. C.

BTW, I like the way those fabrics work together too…..(not that you asked my NSHO).
