Quick Check-in

We have been ensconced in our lovely Mill Valley, CA home for a couple of days. We had an uneventful drive down except that I had a raging sinus headache which miraculously disappeared after being in this lovely, warm dry climate. Scooter was happy to go to the K-9 resort for a few days to catch up with his doggie friends.

When we got to CA on Wednesday, it was warm and sunny with beautiful cloud formations.

I always love to see the golden hills of summer as I drive through CA.

Our Mill Valley rental is up a canyon and in the redwoods. This is a view from the wrap-around deck.

This lovely Bougainvillea is growing on the deck. You can see a fuchsia behind it.

Steph and her family arrived at lunch time yesterday. The house is very spacious and with nice amenities so we are having a great time. Last night, Clay’s family came over for dinner so that we would have a chance to get better acquainted before the big events. I made roasted veggies and quinoa and potato salads — all vegan and gluten free. And, Mr C grilled assorted sausages. I had fresh berries and ice cream for dessert.

Today, Steph and Jack got up early and went to the SF Flower Mart to buy flowers for the wedding. She is now working on Lisa’s bouquet.

I am waiting for my New York family to show up for lunch and then tonight is the rehearsal shindig at Lisa and Clay’s home in Oakland. I am having a wonderful time seeing so many people I love. Not sure when I will check in again.

I Am Not Amused

A new month and a new color for my 3 x 3s — yellow orange. I was excited to see that I have lots of fabrics in these colors.

Here is the October collection:

I was hoping to lead off tonight with lots of quilting done on the Rosales Organ quilt. Unfortunately, my Janome Horizon is not doing well today. I don’t know what the problem is, but it started having tension problems and I was getting error messages. Tonight it just up and quit. I have til the end of the month to get the piece quilted, but I was on a roll and I hate having to stop. I got some stitching done on one of the wood panels.

So, I am not a happy camper.

On another note, I can do a little daughter bragging. Lisa has designed some wallpaper for Hygge and West. You can see it here. I love the one with triangles:

Another Crazy Week

Here it is Friday and I am so behind in my studio work. Tomorrow, I am heading down to Newberg to see Regina Benson’s exhibit and attend her lecture. Then tomorrow night we have a dinner date with Mr C’s boss and some other former GE employees.

Yesterday, I didn’t get much done except take part in back to back SDA conference calls and a Go To Meeting computer conference. Then I picked up M & M at school while Jack and Stephanie were off celebrating their 15th anniversary. We had such a good time with the kiddos. I love having them come to stay with us.

So, of course, it was a busy morning getting them off to school. I managed to select the background for my maverick twelve piece and got it quilted.

I will have to boogie to get this done on Sunday for a Monday reveal.

I have long been a fan of Yael David-Cohen’s work.

My daughter, Lisa, who is home from her 3-week trip to Scandinavia, is not letting any grass grow under her feet. She released her second font designed in collaboration with a font designer. I am excited to say that it is named after me – Geraldine.

Ouch!

After several weeks of relief, I had a major allergy/sinus attack with a debilitating headache. I had to put myself to bed this afternoon. I have done all the possible remedies and I just hope that I wake up tomorrow feeling better. I made down to the studio tonight and had a bit of fun getting caught up on 3 x 3’s.

I also managed to roast some tomatillos and made a delicious salsa verde which we had with left over pork and black beans. This is why I love my CSA veggies. I probably wouldn’t think to buy tomatillos, but there they were with cilantro and jalapeno peppers.

My daughter, Lisa, has been posting the most amazing photos of her trip to Iceland, Sweden, Finland and Denmark. You can find her blog, here. She is coming home tomorrow after 3 weeks away.

Happy Heart Day

I made this for Mr C and also, his favorite meal — grilled filet mignon, baked potato and broccoli rabe.

And here is my valentine themed 3 x 3 which is felted.

I thought I would continue with some photos from the San Francisco trip. On Friday afternoon, we took Mia to two of the places on her list — Japan Town and the Golden Gate bridge. She says Japan Town was the highlight of her visit.

After she had her fill of Anime and Manga, we drove to the Bay to see the Golden Gate Bridge from Fort Point.

Saturday was the baby shower and we all pitched in to help.

Mark has done a nice job in the back yard of their flat. This is an old laundry sink that he turned into a water garden with a fountain on one side and veggies growing in the other side.
