Talking Food

Wednesday, July 20th, 2011

This is a Focaccia Sandwich that I prepared for STASH, today. The filling is pesto mayo, tomatoes, red onion, arugula and fresh mozzarella. I made the Focaccia di Patate that I made yesterday. It has yukon gold potato in it and cherry tomatoes on top.

This is Scooter after I found him checking it out and hoping for some bites.

I served it with chilled melon soup and brownie with raspberry coulis and vanilla ice cream. The raspberries were picked from my garden yesterday.

Last night I went to High Fiber Diet. We selected the theme for our 2012 show – Elements: Air, Earth, Fire, Water.  I think I can work with that – lots of ideas. Our current show opens the first week of August in Oregon City:

NW Vibes, a new fiber art show by High Fiber Diet, opens with an Artist Reception on August 5th   from 5-8 pm at the Singer Hill Café, 623 7th St, Oregon City, OR.  Musical entertainment by “The Sale” will be from 6 to 8 pm.  Singer Hill Café’s Fundraiser Friday will donate 25% of food and beverage purchases at the Cafe that evening to the High Fiber Diet group. The show runs from August 3-31, 2011.

If you live in the Portland area, I hope you will come by and enjoy the evening with us.

Here are some photos I took at m beloved Rhodie Garden today on my walk with Mr Scooter.

And, I even saw a Blue Heron.

Short Attention Span

Thursday, March 17th, 2011

Not much to show for the couple of days since I last posted. I am trying to remember what I did yesterday. Oh, I burned a CD and sent an entry to PAQA South’s ArtQuiltsmovement. I really had to stretch the artist statement!! I will not be surprised if I don’t get in. Anyway, I am still wandering. I am not lost, just not focused.

The next Twelve by Twelve colorplay theme is chartreuse, selected by me. This afternoon, I started pulling out some chartreuse fabrics and some other fabrics to fill out a palette I have in mind. The first photo is some silk that I might use.

Here are the hand-dyed cottons that I came up with.

I then looked through my commercial fabrics and came up with some that might be fun to fit into the mix.

Tonight, I did some sketches for this. I know what I want to do, now, I have to see if I can pull it off. Tomorrow, I will be Mistyfusing some fabric.

We have been having miserable rainy weather. This afternoon, the sun came out for a bit. Mr C and I took Scooter for a walk at the Rhodie garden. All of a sudden, I see that it is pink season in Portland, again.

And for all the Scooter fans, he got a haircut in preparation for two weeks out at the doggie farm (now canceled). He looks so skinny.

The news from Japan is not very good tonight. Such a triple disaster.

Portland Places

Sunday, February 27th, 2011

I spent a good part of the week-end manipulating photos in Photoshop which I then printed on Extravorganza. The photos are of parks and landmarks around Portland. I have fused them to the quilt background. This is a photo of Cathedral Park which is under the St. John’s Bridge.

I also am auditioning some of my organza water fabric as an embellishment for the river.

I think it gives a lovely depth to the composition. Once I fuse the organza down, I can start quilting.

I took some photos of Scooter today, just for fun. Here he is for all the Scooter fans. He has his nice heavy, fluffy winter coat. He loves the cold weather and the snow.

On another note, we are getting such lovely reviews of our Twelve X Twelve book. Be sure to check out Virginia Spiegel’s review on her blog.

Painting Bridges

Monday, February 21st, 2011

I have 4 bridges drawn, cut and painted. I am quite happy with them.  I wanted to do one more bridge, but I don’t think the composition can manage one more bridge. I need to get the background done to see if I can add one more.

I tested some different paints and colors before I started painting.

I wanted to scan some Portland area maps to print on organza for this and I found out tonight that my scanner driver does not work with the Mac Snow Leopard OS. This happens every time I upgrade. Thankfully, my Epson printers work. I have a request in to Canon for some help. I hope I don’t have to buy yet another scanner.

We had an uneventful week-end. We went to Mia’s basketball game. Her school has not had basketball teams in the best so they are just getting started. They always lose by a lot of points, but it was such a thrill to see the heart and excitement that they give to the game. They are the Chinooks and they wear t-shirts that were printed with real fish.

Tonight, when I was working in the studio, I heard Scooter barking and Mr C yelling at him. Scooter ran downstairs and this is what he looks like when he knows someone is mad at him.

Don’t forget!! If you would like to buy an autographed copy of the Twelve X Twelve book and get a small piece of gericon art, click on the book in the side bar.

Look! Our Book!

Monday, February 14th, 2011

I was about to give up that the UPS guy would bring my author copies today. About 5:10 pm, Scooter started barking. He hears much better than Mr C and I. Mr C went out the front door and came back in with my box of 5 author copies. Sorry for the weird photo. It was taken with my Macbook Photobooth cam.

The book is really gorgeous — just chock full of beautiful photos of our quilts and our own personal stories. If you want an autographed copy from me, I will be setting up a buy now button as soon as I have some time and know how.

The Lark blog is doing Twelve Days of Twelves. I was the featured artist today. Be sure to follow along. They may have a give away of our book at the end.

At breakfast, I found this lovely plant in a pot that Mr C knew I would love. He was right!!

I have my sage/blue/brown piece done except for sewing down the facings. Here is a sneak peek of the work in progress.

Today, I started a mini-Photoshop Elements class. I am totally self taught in Photoshop and Illustrator, meaning, I don’t know much, at all!!

Here is my first project — a cropped photo with text — color matched to the stem of the daisy!

I have to tell you that listening to Stephanie talk about her photography job in Savannah was such a thrill for me. She had fun, learned a lot and was very successful. Now, they wait for the client to make some decisions. Soon, I can tell you the name of the client.

Lisa says she can die now because she was mentioned in the NY Times magazine yesterday. Click here to read about her. My kids continue to amaze me.

I haven’t shown you a photo of the lovable, Scooter, lately. Here he is, sacked out in the tv room. He lies right at my feet. Sometimes, I forget he is there and trip over him. Such a sweetie.
