Lost My Momentum

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

or maybe I am just catching up on stuff after the manic quilting. I did get the bamboo hanger on this little piece which was in the latest Tote Tuesday auction. It has left for Arlington, TX.

I got some guild errands done. I worked on the SDA website. I helped Stephanie with a computer problem. I played with some indigo scraps for the next 12 X 12 quilt in our color/colour theme of blue, white and a little black. I also uploaded the new work to my website. So, I guess it was not a total waste.

My friend, Terry, has been doing some very deep blog posts lately. So I have been feeling quite shallow. On a day like this, I worry about being a big snore bore.

Here are a couple of things I saw on my walk with Scooter today, taken with my iPhone.

That would be Jack, my favorite son-in-law. Nice sign, I think.

I am off to watch men’s ice skating and Project Runway with remote in hand.

Quilting Done

Monday, February 15th, 2010

After a false start and several hours of unquilting, I have finished the quilting on Meander. This photo is a little fuzzy, but you get the idea. My original plan was to quilt in curves, following the lines of the river, but it just looked terrible.

This is another in my construction series, and I have basically done linear quilting, sometimes with some waviness, and I realized, to fit my aesthetic, I needed to do that with this piece, even though it meant stopping the stitching at the river for each row. I found some variegated thread that worked perfectly. I used a different thread in the lower portion.

I had originally tried to do a zigzag stitch around the river, but with those deep curves, it did not look good. So I went in with the zigzag and free motion quilted it. I really like the organic look of it. Click on the photo to see a close-up.

I still have to finish the edges – probably a satin stitch with the variegated thread. Tomorrow night is our meeting when we turn in our quilts. I will be bringing them all home with me as we are doing the jurying of the show at my house next month.

Don’t forget to check out the Tote Tuesday 3 auction tomorrow. There is some great stuff to be had!!

There will be many wonderful totes to bid on as well as art by Teri Stegmiller, Elin Waterson and myself. Here is the link to see all of the wonderful goodies. We have a goal of making at least $10,000.

Good Things

Monday, May 18th, 2009

Well, Scooter is definitely a good thing. He has made our life a little more interesting and gotten us off our duff to get him outside several times a day. It is the key to housebreaking — training the owners!!

Here are some more photos. I promise this is not turning into a dog blog. We gave him a bath and now his hair is a little curlier.

He is such a funny boy. This is how he drinks his water.

I received the other two collages that I purchased from the Collage Mania auction to support the American Cancer Society.

This one is by my friend, Carol Larson in Petaluma. It is very textural and is called Nightfall. I love her work and am so happy to have a piece in my collection.

The other is by my friend Carol Suto from the East Bay area of California. I met her through Liz Berg. I have always been a fan of her work.

It is also a good thing that I am making progress on all of the stuff  I need to get done before I get on a plane Friday morning and head for Kansas City. I have been filling in my wardrobe with some new summer clothes and footwear. I just love these Merrill’s that I picked up over the week-end.

Another good thing is that tomorrow, I am dropping all of my duties and having a fun day with Sue Reno who is visiting from Pennsylvania. I will bring her by to see my messy studio and then Terry is picking us up and we are driving to Philomath (near Corvallis) to see Karen Miller’s big show and a High Fiber Diet meeting. We will take a leisurely drive through the wine country and stop for lunch.

Today, was my play date with Mia, except that Scooter got all of the attention. We took a walk to the Rhodie garden.

Scooter was so tuckered out, he made a bee line for his crate:

I received some great mail today. The first of my Collage Mania pieces arrived. This one is “Nevermore” by Pat Dolan. It is beautifully mounted. I love it. The photo does not do it justice.
