Now, What Have I Done

Saturday, February 10th, 2007

I am back at work on the Fragment’s piece. I decided that it needed a little more embellishment so I thought I would monoprint some more circles directly on the piece. Here it is with the quilting I have done so far.

Fragmentsupdate

Here is a closeup of the quilting, so far. Sorry, it is sort of blurry. The bottom of the quilt still needs quilting, but I wanted to figure out the additional design elements before I do the quilting.

Here is how I do the monoprints. Paint what ever motif, in this case the circles, on a plastic document holder.

This is then inverted, paint side down, on to the fabric. Pat it and smooth it, to transfer the image. Here it is on muslin.

So, I got brave and printed directly on the quilt.

Monoprintblackcircles

Oops! That didn’t turn out quite like I wanted. I then used some copper paint and monoprinted over the black to tone it down.

I now need to collage something over it so I auditioned a couple of ideas. This some gauzy metallic material that I have a big roll of and have been wanting to use in some way.

This a fragment of the fake writing screen print I made a while ago.

I think I like that best. I am still having some angst over this piece. It is going to be hard to photograph because of the silks and metallics. It is very organic with lots of rough edges. This afternoon I about gave it up, but I am going to keep working on it because it is a learning experience, if nothing else.

Lines, Rolls or Rithms

If you are a regular reader, you can see that the side bar on the right has changed. I used to keep track of my favorite blogs with Blogrolling. I really like this updater. It was easy to add a blog. It would add a "new" to the blog whenever there was a new posting. But, suddenly, it no longer updated blogs. When I went to their site, it was obvious no one was paying any attention – the page had not been updated since August. E-mails to support went unanswered.

So, my next avenue was to check out Bloglines. I could never figure this one out. So, after an e-mail conversation with Mrs Mel, I decided to try out Blogarithm. I found it easy to use and I love that I can make categories. It does not update the blogroll, but I get an e-mail, once a day, with all the new posts. It comes at 4 pm. I wish it came in the morning.  So for now, that is how I am keeping  track of all of you.

Well, that is not the only way! I also have RSS feeds bookmarked. Some blogs don’t have RSS activated. I don’t know how that works. Anyone know? I have a folder titled Blogs on my bookmark’s tool bar.

What have I been doing? I have been getting "Breaking Barriers" ready to go to Marion, Indiana, next week. I had to finish the facings, add a four inch sleeve and make a label.

I have also been getting the final stuff written for my website. I will soon be able to do the tweaking myself. Gloria Hansen of Gloderworks and her helpers in snowy London are designing it.

I leave you with a couple of the lovely Valentine’s drawings that Mia did for me last week-end. I love, love them. These are clickable for a larger version.

Tuesday Tidbits

This morning Mr C and I went out to the AAA to get new passport photos taken. We just realized that ours have expired. It is a photo that I will not be posting on my blog! It is quite sobering to see your passport photos, separated by 10 years, side by side.

This afternoon, I finished working on the latest Round Robin piece. I think those of you who know me can understand why this was a very difficult piece for me. I don’t do fairies and butterflies, as a rule. I have nothing against them; I just like the more abstract images in my work. Mia loved this and would have liked to have it for herself.

Cindyrr

I had some pink Angelina fibers that I had used for the Valentine’s card so I dressed the fairy and added some hearts and fairy dust and did some stitching on it. Part of participating in a Round Robin like this is being sensitive to other’s tastes and yet adding a bit of yourself.

I have also been finishing up the images for my website. I am getting close to a launch date. At that time, my blog will become part of my website and I am moving to WordPress. I hope I won’t regret this.

Cruising Through the Week-end

Milesboat

M and M were here for a couple of days so that their Mom and Dad could have a romantic get away. I haven’t done much other than entertaining the kids and preparing kid food. Mia and I spent some time at  Stars,  an antique and collectible store in Westmoreland. She picked out some great stuff for her mom, Miles and herself. I didn’t get any pictures before it all went home with them. She has a great eye for the bargains and good design. Her mom says she has had seven years of training. She also made me several wonderful drawings with a Valentine theme.

Miles arrived wearing his sailor shirt (from Aunt Lisa) and declared that he wanted to make a boat. Of course, the imaginative Mr C and super granddad granted his wish. The picture above is the work in progress. It has an engine with a propeller in the back and a couple of flags. During the week-end, we watched a Sesame Street show where they were making a boat and the Muppet’s kept saying "I Love This Boat." So that became Miles mantra as the week-end progressed.

I love Grandchildren.

Heart 2 Heart

Friday, February 2nd, 2007

Mmmm! We just had a great dinner of grilled beef fillet, baked potato and Caesar salad. We enjoyed a wonderful bottle of Zinfandel. We were going to go out to dinner, but I surprised Mr C with the makings for this meal. Now, I am feeling very mellow.

Today, I finished more postcards for the Heart 2 Heart project. I further embellished one of my discharged pieces with rubbings using neocolors.

Here is the final fabric:

Here are the 10 postcards that I sent off today:

Tomorrow, Steph and Jack are going on a little trip out to the gorge, overnight, so M & M are coming to spend the week-end with us. I am very excited to have these wonderful kids for a whole week-end.
