Happy Day

Monday, August 6th, 2007

We are settled in for the night at a motel in Forks, WA. We arrived in the Olympic National Park today. We had lots of traffic — much like Judy on her trip this week.

When I wasn’t driving, I worked on this:

The wild flowers were blooming with abandon along the road side as in this drive by view of Lake Quinault.

We spent the afternoon at the beautiful Hoh Rainforest and did a hike of a little over 2 miles. We saw moss up the whazoo, even on the telephone booth.

And other beautiful sites:

Signs like this made our hike a little faster:

This little cafe sign made me laugh — the Hard Rain Cafe:

Here is where we had dinner — The Kalaloch Lodge, right by the ocean.

Yjr wifi here is slower than molasses so it is way past my bed time. Signing off from a beautiful day. You can see all my photos from the day on my Flickr site.

Summer Delights

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

That would be painting t-shirts, eating watermelon, shopping for take out dinner and taking a scooter walk — all with the company of M & M.

Is it possible that five and seven year olds have so much energy at the end of the day because they take yours? M & M came with their little suitcases, early this afternoon. I had prepared some t-shirts for them to paint with Tee-juice markers. Here is Mia working on hers:

Here is Miles’ creation. This must be a formal t-shirt — note the bow tie.

Mia was very interested in the fancy stitches that my Janome makes so I set her up with some fabric and showed her how to program it and away she went.

Later, we took a trip to New Seasons to get some take out food. Thankfully, Mr C came along to keep tabs on the munchkins while I bought food.

Watermelon was on the menu and enjoyed on the deck.

Here is Mia modeling her new tee-shirt. Front and back.

Here is the view from our deck in August. So cool and green. I love it.

They are now bathed and sound asleep, and I am starting to revive.

On a completely different note, this arrived in the mail today. It is a 12 inch square art quilt which I purchased from the SAQA auction.

It is by Elizabeth Fram. Click on her name to go to her website. I love her work. This piece was even better in person.

I Am Really Losing It

Wednesday, August 1st, 2007

In fact, I have lost 10 pounds as of today. Here is where I usually get in to trouble. I feel great and have lots of energy. My clothes are loose and I am fitting in to things I almost gave away. I usually plateau for physical and psychological reasons. And of course, we are leaving for vacation on Sunday. I hope to get in lots of hiking and walking and to eat sensibly. If I can just hold it or lose a teensy bit, I will be happy.

I have been trying to clean up my creative space this week. I have made a mess as I have come and gone from workshops and have been working on quilts for the Japanese Garden show. I can’t do another thing until I clean up my mess.

Here are the latest additions to my studio.

In the background are black cotton t-shirts that I plan to discharge. On the left is soy way. In the center are T-Juice fabric markers. I think M & M may be decorating some t-shirts this week-end. I will also use them on fabric for art quilts. Today, I stopped in at big lots and got a fantastic deal on these clamps which I will use in my shibori work for clamping resists.

As I was leaving the house over the week-end, I saw this strange sign on the corner of Reed College property so I grabbed my camera and took a photo. Then, I thought I would have some fun in Photoshop and add it to my Virtual Iraq War Protest.
