A Mixed Day

Monday, September 10th, 2012

I had a busy day. Worked in the studio. Had a lunch meeting with the co-chairs of the Trinity Artists Among Us 2013 event. We had a very productive meeting. It feels good to get started earlier this year. As I was driving home, I started feeling sick. I had an ear ache, swollen glands and headache.

I tried to ignore it, but I think I have one of those dang viruses that gets you now and then. I did manage to get the Dancing Kelp fused together and on the design wall where I could do some finessing.

I still have to add a lot of bubbles to areas that need some life. Here is a detail.

I sewed a sleeve on the Line Dancing quilt which I will submit on Wednesday for Rhythm and Hues. Tomorrow, I only need to do paper work and get my supplies together for the Elizabeth Barton class.

Now, to bed and hope to sleep off the bug.

Not Much to Show

Sunday, September 9th, 2012

It has been one of those Sundays. We are back in the routine of going to church, walking the dog, have lunch, read the paper, and so on.

I did get to the studio for a bit this afternoon to do my 3 x 3 and work on the kelp/water piece. I think I have all the bits laid out. I need to get it fused and clean up my work space. I am less efficient when every thing is a mess.

I picked some more Roma tomatoes from the garden and made a delicious pizza for dinner. I thought I could get some more work done tonight,  but I am really tired.

I need to get work ready to turn in for the Rhythm and Hues show and do some paper work for a show in Salem. It is a High fiber Diet show, but they are asking for a lot of paper work from each member. I also need to get ready for the Working in a Series workshop with Elizabeth Barton later this week.

It is good to be busy as I keep reminding myself.

It’s Elemental

Saturday, September 8th, 2012

The High Fiber Diet Show, Elements, debuted today at the Woodburn Art Center. The usual suspects showed up — the artists. I think we had about 3 non artists show up before Mr C and I left to have lunch. The show looks great. Here are some photos that I took.

That is my Motherlode on the left. Next a piece by Karen Miller and then Bonnie Bucknam. The are all earth themed. The last quilt on the right, by Mary Goodson is a water theme.

That is my water quilt in the middle. On the right is a piece done by Mary Arnold. Not sure of the theme. It could be water or earth. The piece on the left is a fire theme by Diane Born.

The balloon quilt is by Diane. That is my air quilt in the middle and on the right is a water quilt by Catherine Beard. That is a beautiful piece.

Two fire quilts – on the left is by Carol Heist. It is really gorgeous. Then my fire quilt with which I am not at all happy. I didn’t take enough time with it. The piece on the right is an earth theme by Elizabeth Bamberger.

Earth on the left by Christina Brown and fire on the right by Mary Arnold – very different from her normal representational work.

Terry’s four quilts were nicely presented together. They are all the same size and really make a nice grouping.

This is Laura Jaszkowski’s air – I think – guess it could be earth, too.

This, I am assuming is earth. It is by Linda Christianson.

We have a couple of garments in the show. This is a gorgeous felted stole by Maarja Paris.

There were a few more pieces that I did not photograph.

This is Emily, Mary, Diane and Elizabeth, four of the artists.

Here is today’s 3 x 3.

Too Dang Hot

Friday, September 7th, 2012

We are having a September heat wave with winds blowing east out of the Columbia Gorge where it is always hotter. There are fires there which and the smoke is coming on the wind and making my eyes sting and I am losing my voice. It was i the high 90s and even got too hot to work in my usually cool basement studio. I had to knock off early and sit quietly and drink ice water.

We did go out tonight for dinner and went to a first Friday event in Sellwood. It just made my itchy eyes worse.

I am making good progress on the kelp/water piece. I just need to fill in a few spots and fuse it down.

I have a busy day tomorrow. I have to be at Trinity at 9:30 to meet with the folks that are doing Sunday School. I am going to work in the art room again. Then, I have to pick up Mr C and head for Woodburn for the debut of the High Fiber Diet Elements show at the Woodburn Art Center. It is from noon to 3 pm, if you are in the area and would like to come.

Have a good week-end.

Multi-Tasking

Thursday, September 6th, 2012

The Democratic National Convention is over. Maybe I can get back to more serious time in my studio. I have been knocking off and watching the DNC at 3 pm every day. I am a political geek. Bubba knocked it out of the park last night. It was our 48th wedding anniversary, and we stayed home with take out so that we could watch his speech. Truth be told, after two week away from home, we are not that in to eating out.

Yesterday, I went in to have my hair color done and told Kevin I wanted something different. I am now a sort of goth redhead. It is sort of a burgundy red. It is fun to have a change.

Between my CSA veggies and my own garden, I had a plethora of tomatoes so this morning I roasted 3 pans to go in the freezer for the winter.

This afternoon, I went out to Terry’s house to work on the Twelve by Twelve quilts. We unpacked them and made sure they were all presentable and attached to the felt backgrounds.

Meanwhile, back in my  studio, I decided to add some additional color to the water/kelp piece. I think it is great addition.

I have taken on the job of registrar for the Surface Design Conference which will be in San Antonio in June. I did the job 4 years ago. We will have a registration set up on the website which will make the job easier. Last time I had to deal with snail mail, e-mail and phone registrations. I am excited to work with all my friends down in Texas.

Her is the other 3 x 3 for today.
