Baby, It’s Cold Outside

exoticlrsvrs

We just drove home from out theology class and the car registered an outside temperature of 26°. It didn’t get above 32° during the day and the wind made it worse. We managed to take Scooter for a short walk. I found these leaves on my walk. They are really beautiful, but I can’t figure out what tree they came from.

I started over on my pink piece and am much happier with the way it is looking. The reveal will be next Saturday — 12/12 — clever, eh?

Here is a sneak peek:

There is no quilting done, yet. Today, I printed many little things on Lutradur that I then painted with gel medium so that they would shine and then I had to cut them all out. Once they are attached to the quilt, I can do the quilting.

The latest Scooter escapades — I bought some home baked goodies at the church Christmas Bazaar, yesterday. We ate a couple of lemon bars. While I was downstairs working, you guessed it, he got the goodies off the kitchen island and devoured them. Today, he chewed the electric cord of my portable hater in half. Good thing it was not plugged in. I have to constantly keep an eye on him! I hope he outgrows this chewing obsession, soon.

I hope you are staying warm and cozy, wherever you are tonight.

Let Christmas Begin

I have been busy for the last couple of days with M & M, getting into the holiday mood. Yesterday, they had no school so Steph dropped them off early in the afternoon. We got tickets for the Holiday Laser Show at the OMSI planetarium. It was fun to listen to Christmas music and stare at the hokey graphics on the planetarium ceiling. We also spent some time in some of the exhibits. There is so much there for the kids to learn from experiments and exhibits like this one”

I think Mr C had as much fun as M & M.

We had to go home to pay some attention to Scooter, then it was off to Burgerville for supper. Back at home we broke out the Peppermint Ice Cream and chocolate sauce — a sure sign that the holidays have arrived. Next on the schedule was Bah Hum Duck, a Looney Tunes version of The Christmas Carol.

This morning, we mixed up a batch of Nigella Lawson’s edible gingerbread tree decorations. M & M had lots of fun cutting out and decorating the cookies.

Next, they implored me to get out the nativity sets and the shelf tree (Mia’s description of my wooden Swedish ornament holder.

Scooter was very intrigued with the Santa hat and kept jumping up and grabbing the white fluffy ball.

We arranged all of the nativities. Mia remembered where each of them is assembled. I was quite worn out when their Dad came to get them at noon.  After a rest, I went out to Fred Myer’s, a local grocery with lots of other stuff. I bought a new hat and gloves for the cold weather and a Christmas adornment for Scooter. The antlers light up and blink, but that was too much for him.

I have a very busy week ahead of me and I still want to remake my pink piece. I think I can pull it off. I may just do a pretty pink collage and take the easy way out.

delterry

Del Thomas is in Portland for a short visit and Terry and I met her at Starbucks. We talked and talked and talked. It was a great visit.

Otherwise, today has been a bust. I realized that I really have to redo my pink piece. It just isn’t conveying what  had in mind.  I don’t think it will take too much work. I will feel better about it.

Tomorrow, M & M have no school so Steph is dropping them off in the afternoon. We are taking them to the OMSI planetarium Holiday Laser show. They will spend the night as mom and dad are going to a party without them. If we have time, we might make some Christmas Cookie ornaments.

And now for something cute:

pinksneakpeek

I finally got over my angst about the pink challenge quilt and started the quilting. I got a bug in my bonnet about what I wanted to do and then I just got cold feet. It is a bit of a departure from what I normally do. Here a couple of sneak peeks, above and below. Not a lot of pink to be seen, you say!!

I packed up the 12 Twelve X Twelve quilts and sent them on their way for their photo shoot. I felt like I was letting my children go. I don’t know when I will see them in person again. They will travel to places that I may never go.

Yesterday, Scooter got a shave and a haircut. We are letting his body hair grow for the winter. Here is a photo I took of him today. He looks so handsome.

Tomorrow, Terry and I are going to meet Del Thomas for coffee. She is in town to visit her Aunt who is in hospice care. Her aunt lives right in my neighborhood.  I haven’t seen Del since the days when I used to go to Empty Spools at Asilomar.

Its in the Bag

12bag1

My Twelve X Twelve quilts, that is. We are shipping them off to Lark  to be photographed. Each of us has made a bag for our quilts to travel in. When they get to Australia, for the shows, they will be sorted by theme in each bag.

I used the fabric I bought the other day. It has several different motifs in one piece and I think it makes for a very nice bag. I decided not to waste my hand=dyed fabric on a bag. Here is the other side.

I photographed each one for the final time and burned a CD of the images.

Now, I have to start work on my chapter which will be about the making of my chair piece.

I had a busy day — taking Scooter to the groomer and a meeting and lunch. I think I have tomorrow free to finally get the pink piece finished.
